Google docs and other things

found this interesting and easy to use but struggled with renaming docs as it picked up the first string of text for the name, so if anyone else has done this...HELP!

A couple of weeks ago, Colleen, Gabriel and I went to a forum hosted by RMIT for disability support officers in tertiary institutions. It was very interesting with some great guest speakers....you will here more about this soon. But one thing which links to Google docs is 'Access Apps'

Access Apps has been developed by Regional Support Centre Scotland and North East.
It consists of over 50 open source and freeware assistive technology applications which can be entirely used from a USB stick on a Windows computer.

Google Maps

I am a user of Google maps and street view. Last Friday I drove to Morwell and visited one of the community orgs in my disability project. I printed out a Google map page to take with me.

I have found my house and thought, my goodness I need to clean up the verandah!

iGoogle

I have decided to dedicate some time this week to catch up on my learnings and my blog. So onward to iGoogle. I actually set up mu iGoogle account a oouple of weeks ago. One of the things I have started to do is explore web sites rather that drop in, grab the thing I want and then move on. So I explored Google and set up my iGoogle account but found that I was still just using the main google home page. So now I will go to my iGoogle page and check out my weather feed, my news feed, my buudist quote feed, and the cheapest petrol feed and see how I go. Maybe too much extra bits on my iGoogle page, hmmmm we will see.


BUT I vote that in this remodeling phase of Vicnet that we consider taking on some of the perks that Google staff have.

A Learning Outcome

As I go on this journey, I find that not only am I learning while following the curriculum, but I am taking the time (when available) to explore other options on websites that I visit. I am a user of Google for searching and now calendar and lately (I am sure as a result of this course) that I am exploring other areas of the website. So I have skipped ahead of the Web 2.0 curriculum without knowing it and have an iGoogle account, an email and have been exploring accessibility options.

So one of my learnings is to take the time and look around.

Another is this is not a linear journey. I move on to a new topic and then find that something triggers off a revisit to a previous topic and I learn something else.

EBooks

Before I knew it I was off to ebooks. As previously noted, I follwed Michael's link to YRPL library and have now become a member. Also have become a member at the World Public Library for a small fee. I can see that I am going to need to get an mp3 player as I like the idea of both pod casting and ebooks and want to download onto something I can take with me. This one is a keeper for me!

Podcasting or time shifting

I am a web 2.0 user! For some time now I have been podcasting and not realized that this means I am au fait with web 2.0. I have been podcasting biography type stuff for some time, and today while exploring the exercises in the podacst section, I got lost with Ramona Koval's Book Show and listened to an interview with Stella Rimmington.
Then I explored a couple of the other sites listed - the Yahoo link doesn't work. So I went to Yahoo and searched but got a bit confused.
Next I was looking at some of the posts from other bloggers, I followed Michael's link to YRPL. Of course i know who they are, and remember hearing about their online books etc but had not been there before. I listened and enjoyed an Amercian Indian meditation, so thanks Michael.
Looking at some of the podcasting sites it all seemed a bit overwhelming in regard to the choices but it comes back to what I am interested in and following that path.
